VPT Testing Information
Students electing to take the program/course(s) for dual enrollment credit must apply to the community college in which the course is offered and take the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) by July 1. Students who do not complete the testing or achieve the cut scores by the deadline will not be enrolled for dual enrollment credit.
STEP 1: Applying to the Appropriate Community College
Students must apply to Mountain Gateway Community College or Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) online at: https://apply.vccs.edu/oa/launch.action
Once you have applied to the community college, a unique seven-digit number will be assigned to your student called an EMPLID number. This EMPLID number will be used during the community college registration process so please keep this number for your reference and records.
STEP 2: Taking the Virginia Placement Test (VPT)
The Virginia Community College System also requires placement testing in English and math for all students before they can be enrolled in any dual enrollment course. The required VPT will be offered at LBHS, JRHS, RMMS, and CAMS to all students requesting to be enrolled in a dual enrollment course. If your student would like to sign up for one of the testing sessions at the sites mentioned above, please check the Lord Botetourt guidance website for the link to the VPT sign up form. (Students may test at any of the four schools listed on the form.) Students must apply to the appropriate community college and have their EMPLID number before signing up for testing. The following url or link may be used to access the form as well

If your student will be unable to test on the dates offered, please make plans to complete the VPT at Virginia Western Community College or Mountain Gateway Community College and submit your results to LBHS byJuly 1.
