Read Mountain Middle School FALL 2019 Sports Information

Students MUST have these two items to participate in tryouts/practice.

1. Any athlete who plans on trying out for a sport MUST have a current physical on the VHSL physical form on file, dated AFTER May 1st, 2019. Forms are available online and in the main office.

2. A parent, along with their athlete, must also attend a policy meeting. Due to recent policy changes, ALL student-athletes must attend a policy meeting with a parent.  (This is for one year only. Next year, we go back to first time athletes and grades 7, 9, and 11.)

Please note:  Any student wishing to stay for an open gym or weightlifting must have a current physical on file.  

FALL POLICY MEETINGS
Due to recent policy changes, ALL student-athletes must attend a policy meeting with a parent to be eligible in the 2019-20 school year.  You may attend a meeting at ANY of the secondary schools.  Below are fall meetings for the 2019-20 school year.  

CAMS July 16th at 5:30 p.m.

RMMS July 25th at 5:30 p.m.   

JRHS July 30th at 5:30 p.m.     

LBHS July 31st at 6:00 p.m.  


You may attend a meeting at any secondary school.  (CAMS, JRHS, LBHS, or RMMS)

There will be additional meeting dates available at all secondary schools before fall sports begin. Additional policy meetings will be held before winter and spring sports begin as well.

PHYSICALS

Free Physicals

The Sports Medicine Department will be hosting the Annual Sport Pre-Participation Physical Day on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences (ION) located at 2331 Franklin Road, Roanoke VA 24014. Some important things to keep in mind:

 

  • There is no cost for this service from Carilion Clinic.
  • You must bring a physical form with pages one and four completed and signed.
  • The Read Mountain and Lord Botetourt time spot is 2:00 p.m. Be on the lookout for more information and/or a sign-up sheet.

Tryouts – Athletes should stay after school and report to the gym. 

May 13, 14, 15, 16                  3:15 pm – 5:00pm                              

RMMS FOOTBALL

 Football Equipment Pick -Up Dates and Times

Athletes need to report to the team room in the back of RMMS for this.

            July 27th         9 am – Noon 

            July 29th         3 pm – 6 pm

            July 31st          3 pm - 6 pm

 Practice begins August 1st.  (See times below.)

The times below are START times.  Players should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time to dress.

            August 1st and 2nd                  4:00 pm – 6:15 pm                              (Arrive at 3:30 p.m.)

            August 3rd                                9:00 am – 11:15 am                            (Arrive at 8:30 a.m.)

            August 5th, 6th, 7th                   4:00 pm - 6:15 pm                            (Arrive at 3:30 p.m.)

          August 8th and 9th                    After School - 6:00      pm                   (Arrive at 3:30 p.m.)

            August 10th                              9:00 am – 11:15 am                            (Arrive at 8:30 a.m.)

Tryouts – Athletes should be dressed and ready to begin at 3:30 p.m.

August 5th, 6th, and 7th            3:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Eighth grade students interested in cross-country, golf, or JV volleyball at LBHS should contact the high school for tryout/practice schedules.
